The programme references current standards and professional frameworks: Skills for health (national occupational standards for public health practice); NHS post-qualifying training for doctors (modernising medical careers); NHS knowledge and skills framework (NHS KSF); public health resource unit’s new multi-disciplinary, multi-agency career framework for public health specialists; faculty of public health’s learning outcomes framework; these standards and competences are mapped across the programme and module outcomes in order to ensure that the programme supports the continuing professional development needs and aspirations of individuals and their employers; it incorporates a blend of distance and face-to-face learning and provides students with the opportunity to choose from a number of more specialist module options at appropriate points; the programme includes consideration of issues arising from the particular environment of the south-west: rurality; an ageing population; and specific environmental hazards.
