The professional master's (M.Ch.E.) program in chemical engineering at Rice offers a non-thesis professional degree intended to better prepare students for a career in the field of chemical engineering. The curriculum is designed for recent graduates with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering to complete in two semesters (Fall and Spring). The curriculum is also designed for students with a non-chemical engineering bachelor's degree. Additional semesters are typically needed in order for the students to take the additional courses that chemical engineering bachelor's degree holders have taken (i.e., chemical engineering design and process control). Also, some courses may be recommended to the student, in preparation for the graduate-level courses, depending on the student.

Houston has two airports: William P. Hobby (HOU), 11 miles to the south of campus and George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), 24 miles to the north. Intercontinental is a hub of global travel. Hobby is a hub for regional, domestic travel. Together they offer 1,000 flights a day in and out of Houston.

Most major rental car companies have locations at both airports. SuperShuttle and taxis provide ground transportation services from both airports.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, (METRO) provides bus and rail service from destinations around Houston. There is a METRORail stop across the street from the main entrance of the Rice campus. The rail line travels up and down Main Street, serving downtown, the Texas Medical Center and Reliant Park.
