University of Wales Trinity Saint David, BA (Hons), Early Years Education and Social Inclusion

Course aims: to give students an increasing understanding of the integrated and holistic nature of the care and learning needs of young children from pre-birth to 5 years; to give students a thorough understanding of the importance of play in the cognitive, social, emotional and linguistic development of young children; to give students a thorough understanding of issues of quality in early years provision; to give students opportunities to draw on a wide range of intellectual resources, theoretical perspectives and academic disciplines to illuminate understanding of the issues of social inclusion and special education and the contexts in which these take place; to give students a broad and balanced knowledge and understanding of the principal features of social inclusion and special education within organisational, national and international contexts; to give students opportunities to engage with fundamental questions concerning the aims and values of inclusive education and its relationship to society; to give students opportunities to appreciate the problematic nature of educational theory, policy and practice; to give students encouragement to interrogate of educational processes in the contexts of social inclusion and special educational needs.
