Course aims: to develop a broad historical understanding of statutory educational frameworks in Wales and the UK; to develop an understanding of key factors in the cultural and political context of education; to develop a broad understanding of bilingualism and language acquisition; to develop a broad knowledge of psychology and education; to develop a working knowledge of aspects of school related to social awareness, moral values, spirituality and pastoral care; to develop an understanding of the operation of the frameworks for formal learning; to develop an understanding of the breadth and function of educational provision beyond the school system; to develop study skills related to literacy; numeracy; information communication technology and investigation; to introduce students to a broad, progressive and integrated understanding of the phenomenon of world religions; to give students an appreciation of the position of Christianity in the context of a multi-faith and pluralist society; to enable students to appreciate the nature of the dialogue between Christianity and other major world religions; to introduce students to an understanding of the significance of world religions in their diversity within a global context, and in their relation to one another; to assist students to approach the subject in an open and exploratory manner, but with full academic rigour; to foster academic and personal skills derived from the disciplines represented in the phenomenological, historical and doctrinal aspects of world religions; to provide students with practical and transferable skills necessary for employment.
