This course is a vocational degree designed to give students both theoretical and practical knowledge and experience in the field of psychology; students enrolled on the 4-year sandwich degree will spend 1 year on placement; students are met regularly throughout the placement by an advisor from the Division of Psychology; students follow the pathway of the BSc (Hons) psychology degree for levels 1 and 2, which provides a thorough grounding in the major areas and current issues in psychology; a strong emphasis is placed on research methods, developing the skills needed to conduct "real-life" research; students spend their third year on placement; placement subject areas are determined by the students, which reflect their interest in specific areas of psychology developed from studying psychology at levels 1 and 2; single honours and major degrees in psychology confer the graduate basis for registration with the British Psychological Society (BPS), necessary for further professional training; areas of study include: developmental psychology; counselling psychology; diversity and difference; cognitive psychology; problem solving.
