The course examines the relationship between materials, environment, function and production that must be engineered in order to achieve optimum building performance; although building design forms a significant component of course content, this degree is specifically focused on the link between design and production, and the technical understanding required to realise design; architectural technology has 3 major themes: technology, design and procurement and contracts; to support the delivery of theoretical material, project work and site visits help students to put theory into context; a range of course options allows students to focus on particular areas of interest or to focus on the requirements of a favoured career path.Module Year 1: Core modules: introduction to civil law and legislation; site management and safety; an introduction to technology and design; architecture and planning design studio; contextual skills for the built environment. Year 2: Core modules: architectural computer-aided design; design procedures; design technology 1; environmental services and construction technology; site studies, planning and design. Year 3: Core modules: conversion and adaptation of buildings; project evaluation and development; built environment major project (dissertation); design technology 2.
