Level 1: Introduction to child development; an introduction to the early years curriculum; continuum of development; health and life chances; developing personal effectiveness; recognising and challenging discrimination and disadvantage; family studies; provision for children. Level 2: Child development: theoretical perspectives; play and early childhood or option; the impact of early childhood experiences on adolescence; care and control or providing a curriculum for life; research methods; working in partnership or contemporary issues; legislation and childhood; specialist provision or the urban rural divide. Level 3: The acquisition of language; cognitive development in the nursery or option; issues of work and leisure for young people; issues of risk or drug and alcohol studies; enquiry skills; effective management and leadership; organisational development; ethical issues; comparative issues in childcare, European or English or promoting and enhancing parenting.
