The course suits a variety of types of solicitors’ practice and allows for much more flexibility in the way students complete the course; students can undertake the whole course, comprising both the compulsory and elective stages; complete the compulsory stage first and then pick up the electives at a later date (either on the full-time or part-time LPC); study the electives in a reduced attendance mode (blended learning); our flexible LPC pathway allows for a cross section of skills training which advances students knowledge in a variety of legal environments, and gives ythem a sound basis for the widest variety of practices; or students can choose 1 of our 2 more specialist skills pathways which are tailored to either practice in commercial firms or the provision of law with a distinct publicly financed angle; if students are certain that they want to work in major city practice, then the corporate pathway allows for the whole of your LPC to be geared that way, culminating normally in the 3 corporate electives; most students prefer to move on to stage 2 of the LPC, the electives, immediately after completion of stage 1, but they don't have to and there is a variety of choices; students can stop for a while after stage 1 and rejoin the course in a following year (although SRA rules impose time limits on how long you can wait); students can undertake the electives in blended learning mode; the course skills are: Advocacy, interviewing; research; writing and drafting; particular attention is given to the written skills of research and writing and drafting.
