This course is designed to achieve the intellectual, technical and practical skills necessary to pursue a career as an architectural technologist; plus developing the ability to analyse, evaluate and resolve design and technological problems and develop high-level computer-aided design skills, including virtual reality; students may also undertake a one-year work placement and achieve a degree in the sandwich mode of study; architectural technology is a relatively new and growing discipline within the construction industry which incorporates aspects of both design and technology; students will learn about the unique role of the architectural technologist within the design and construction team and develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to pursue a career in architectural technology; the course includes interdisciplinary group project work which simulates what actually happens during a construction project from inception to completion; students undertake the role of the architectural technologist within a team of other construction specialists and the project will be assessed by a panel which includes representatives from industry and the professions.
