Year 1 (level 4): Students focus on acquiring technical skills involving the breadth of photographic practices and forms; they are also given a detailed overview of the relevant histories of photography and its contexts of display; all modules are worth 15 credits each and include: histories of photography; visualisation 1 (the camera); visualisation 2 (the processes); visualisation 3 (the camera); photography's contexts; the studio; advanced process; introduction to narrative. Year 2 (level 5): students concentrate on issues within contemporary photographic practice: the real; documentary; staged photography; digital forms; installation; photography and film; photography criticism; all modules are worth 15 credits each, except the voice, which is worth 30; modules include: photography as a contemporary art; transcript; realism; scale; reading photography; the voice; professional practice. Year 3 (level 6): students work towards a final independent project, which takes the form of a public exhibition and a written dissertation; all modules are worth 30 credits each and students take 2 each semester; modules include: dissertation; the gesture; independent study; research, exhibition and staging.
