Level 1: Reading texts 1; narrative cultures; writing for academic success ; reading texts 2; women and writing; writing now. Level 2: gives students the opportunity to focus on particular periods, kinds of writing, or perspectives on literature, while including the chance to practice creative writing as well as writing of the more analytical kind; modules include: researching genre fictions; gothic and horror; cultures of childhood; literary theory; working with words; 19th-century writing; literature, space and place; creative writing (A). Level 3: brings the possibility of looking closely at literature from other parts of the world, such as Ireland, America, or the postcolonial world; at literature from the 18th century, the Renaissance or the Romantic period, or at popular culture; modules include: study of Shakespeare; the romantics; early 20th-century writing; post-war American literature; modern Irish writing; gender, sexualities and contemporary popular culture; sex and the city: culture and society in the 18th-century metropolis; dissertation.
