State College is a college town, dominated economically and demographically by the presence of the University Park campus of the Pennsylvania State University, surrounded by large tracts of farmland, and an expanse of mountains and forests.. Though "Happy Valley" is another often-used term to refer to the State College area, the term also includes the borough and the townships of College, Harris, Patton, and Ferguson.
State College has a humid continental climate, where average temperature in winter is about -3°C and about 22.3°C in summer.
