Pepperdine University is an American private, not-profit, coeducational research university affiliated with the Churches of Christ. The school upholds the New Testament-based traditions of the Churches of Christ. Students must attend 14 spiritual events a semester and take at least three religion courses during their time at Pepperdine. There is a Church of Christ on campus as well as a handful of student-led ministries.

Pepperdine is ranked the 50th among "National Universities", the 25th among Best Value Schools, and the 65th among Law Schools by U.S. News & World Report's 2017 rankings. The university was also ranked the 96th in America's Best Colleges by Forbes in 2016.

The most popular majors by the number of registered students are business administration and management, psychology, economics, communications, international studies, political science and government, advertising.

The School of Law placed the 65th among the nation's "Top 100" law schools by the 2016 U.S. News & World Report rankings. It is known for its entertainment law, and also its dispute resolution program, which is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation by the same report.
