The Technical University of Liberec, TUL, is a dynamic university of a medium size that offers joined forms of technical and university education. Within six faculties and a university institute it offers a wide choice of study programmes in technical and scientific disciplines, humanities as well as artistic and interdisciplinary study branches. The institution expert teams work in well-equipped laboratories and encourage students to take part in research projects.
Founded in 1953, the Technical University of Liberec was called the Institute of Mechanical Engineering in Liberec. Today it is a modern institution which grew from two initial faculties.
Based in a northern region famed for textile, chemical, glass, mining and automotive industries, TUL has focused much of its strategy around these areas making strong links with local companies and industries, particularly car manufacturers.
TUL has created various initiatives to welcome international students in the community such as orientation week, the buddy system collaborating an international and a local students and Czech language courses for foreigners. Students work in first-class laboratories and have access to the well stocked university library. All study programs are accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic.

Having achieved the excellent results in the Czech Republic TUL also succeeded worldwide. Its teaching publication and research activities have been appreciated and the university has been ranked among the best world universities listed in the The Times Higher Education Supplement Ranking, THE Ranking.
The university offers courses in humanities and sciences as well as many technical subjects. Students can obtain Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degrees. 18 programmes are taught in English. TUL has also achieved strong showings in research, science and interdisciplinary collaboration.
100 km north to Prague and 300 km to Berlin, Liberec is a diverse city situated in between the Ještěd-Kozákov Ridge and the Jizera Mountains, famous for many ski resorts. Although it has quality public transport the entire city centre is accessible on foot, including the university which is slightly west of the centre, metres from the Harcovská Dam, a popular swimming destination.
