Ostrava is a mixture of events, theatres, sport, wild nightlife and a calm nature. There are many options what to do. The city hosts around 300 concerts every year within the international multi-genre festival Colours of Ostrava. The university also organises NATO days with presentations on security topics as well as military hardware and rescue equipment.
A student organisation at the Technical University of Ostrava is IAESTE. It manages international internships. Other one, AIESEC, is also in charge of student exchange programmes.
The campus houses a minigolf course, a gym, table tennis, a games room, a student club and a music classroom, as well as the Johann Palisa Observatory and Planetarium which regularly holds public observation sessions, film screenings and art exhibitions.
The Central Library offers access to a wide range of resources to support teaching, learning and research at VŠB-TU Ostrava. It contains some 400,000 items - books, periodicals, standards, theses and dissertation, and other material.
Wireless Local Area Network offers the students internet connection with their laptop computers anywhere on campus. There are computer rooms in the Halls of residence area as well as in the University buildings for students.

Prices vary from 165 CZK to 1400 CZK depending on the type of accommodation and duration of staying. Thus, in average, accommodation at VŠB dormitory costs 70 – 106 CZK or € 2.6 – 4 per day.
The Career Centre helps job applicants, VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava both students and graduates, to realize their professional potential, find out how to launch their careers and what to care about when choosing an employer. The centre also offers a great piece of training such as in soft skills, for example argumentation techniques, stress control or presentation skills.
The campus is located near Ostrava, the third largest city in the Czech Republic and the capital of the Moravian-Silesian Region. The Leoš Janáček International Airport Mošnov is only about 30 km from Ostrava. It is also in the proximity of the natural beauty of the Beskydy and Jeseniky mountains and the medieval town Štramberk, palaces Hradec nad Moravicí, Raduň and Fryštát, and the castle Silesia-Ostrava.
