Located in upstate New York State, Binghamton is ranked as the the 5th safest mid-size city in the U.S. (Farmers Insurance Group). Binghamton is just three hours from the New York City and Philadelphia and five hours from Washington DC, Boston and Niagara Falls. There are more than 250 student organizations including about 50 recognized fraternities and sororities. Downtown Binghamton offers a world-class opera company, a symphony orchestra, movie theaters, clubs, incredible restaurants, bars and professional hockey and baseball teams.
Outdoor recreation abounds in the southeastern New York location of Binghamton University. The campus includes a nature preserve, complete with a forest and pond where students can hike, bike and run around.
Through the Adventure Resource Center and the Outdoor Pursuits program, students can participate in organized kayaking, climbing and camping trips or can plan an excursion of their own. Winter sports fans can go skiing and snowboarding at Greek Peak, a 30-mile trip from campus.
On campus, annual student events include University Fest and Spring Fling, two outdoor celebrations with live music, carnival rides and food.
Modeled after the Oxford University, BU students live in six modern residential communities each with its own distinct personality and neighborhood feel.
Freshmen must live on campus and because of space restrictions, no graduate students are permitted to do so. One perk of living in the school's residence facilities: free laundry.

Students engage with the Career Center through educational programs and classes, one-on-one and group consulting services, and tailored services. Its state-of-the-art space also provides a diverse range of opportunities, including connecting job seekers with alumni and employers via conference technology.
