UMBC campus setting is suburban, and the campus size is 500 acres. The university offers a wide range of on-campus services including housing, dining, Recreation and Fitness, wealth center, parking, international travel services, students clubs and organizations.
There are also several bus shuttle lines that are available to all students, faculty, and staff. UM shuttle contributes to a vibrant, dynamic University community by transporting students, faculty, and staff and University of Maryland Medical Center employees to and from the University fare-free.
Students can have fun outside the academic world by participating in about 250 student organizations, pledging one of the nearly 20 fraternities and sororities or attending any of the annual campus events, such as the spring carnival and concert.
UMBC has 23 officially registered sororities and fraternities with nearly 5% of undergraduatestudents belonging to one of them.
The university offers coed housing, apartments for single students, special housing for disabled students, special housing for international students, theme housing.
Its dorms are close to campus – students live within three blocks of all academic buildings. Utilities included are water, sewer, electricity, cable, Internet/WiFi). There are also priority parking for an additional charge. Filled with tons of study spaces for those late nights, as well as washer/dryers, fully-furnished apartments, elevators, and even a gym, they are excellent for students.
Traditional dormitories include following characteristics:
Shared rooms (usually two students per room)
Shared bathrooms (usually four students per bathroom/two rooms per bathroom)
Includes basic furniture (bed, desk, chair, closet), Internet access (Ethernet and Wi-Fi) and access to cable television
Special activities and events every week in the dormitories
Potomac Hall and the on-campus apartments are open all year, including holiday breaks
Most international students prefer Potomac Hall because it is always open. (The other dormitories close during Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks.)
Erickson and Harbor Hall rooms include a living area between the two bedrooms, with the bathroom located in the living area. (living room shared by four students).
According to statistics, 76% of students feel confident they will find a job in their field after graduation.
The career development office provides a range of professional development and recruitment services to assist students and alumni in obtaining legal experience and employment to advance their careers in the legal profession.
