One of the ways in which the University seeks to engage in such dialogue with the public is via 1,200 annual events and performances relating to film, music and theatre. Real-life integration of teaching, scholarship, research, and artistic practice is a central feature of the work we do. This enables students to do full justice to our mission of making a practical contribution to the furtherdevelopment and understanding of the arts.
The University Library is the information centre of the mdw. It provides the literature necessary for art and science and for its teaching. It is an integral part of the university infrastructure and a guarantor for its range of services.
As an artistic and scientific specialist library for music, musicology, music educational theory, drama and directing, film and television, as well as arts management, it provides printed and electronic information carriers. This occurs in close cooperation with the university institutions, and the library also supports its users by offering advice and courses.
Everywhere where the mdw has a base, either on the traditional and innovative campus on Anton von Webern Platz in the third district, in the Baroque church of St. Ursula in the city centre, in the unique palace theatre in Schönbrunn or opposite in Palais Cumberland, it creates an impact on the city, the country, in Europe and far beyond.
