The University of Tulsa campus centers on a wide, grassy, quad-like space known as Dietler Commons, formerly called "The U." Its predominant architectural style is English Gothic. Most of the campus buildings are constructed from tan and rose-colored Crab Orchard sandstone from Tennessee interspersed with stone quarried in Arkansas.
The university's campus borders Tulsa's Kendall-Whittier neighborhood and is not far from Tulsa's downtown and mid-town neighborhoods. The campus, in particular its football stadium Skelly Field, is located on the historic U.S. Route 66, America's "Mother Road" stretching from Chicago to Los Angeles.
Tulsa is one of the first universities in the United States to have a mosque located on campus (in addition to Christian, Jewish and other facilities). TU is also named the greenest university in Oklahoma, will soon power its Case Tennis Center through solar panels.
UT students can get involved in more than 200 student clubs and organizations. The school’s Greek system has more than 10 fraternities and sororities. A variety of fitness classes, intramural sports and recreational programs are available on campus to help students stay in shape and keep the mind sharp.
Less than ten minutes away from Downtown Tulsa, TU is a great location to branch out from. The BOK center, Cain's Ballroom and other music venues offer many genres to choose from. Two different museums (Gilcrease and Philbrook) are within fifteen miles of the campus. The Tulsa Zoo is nearby for those that enjoy an afternoon out in the sun. Lafortune Golf Course and the driving range are excellent places to hit up on the weekend. Hookah Bars are littered all around TU (two lounges within two miles). A multitude of Bars and Pubs are downtown.
On-campus housing consists of six residence halls, six sorority houses and six university-owned apartment complexes, including eight apartments designed like townhouses. Freshmen and sophomores must live on campus, unless they commute from a parent's home within 20 miles of campus. Students who are at least 21 years old or married may live off campus, too.
Residence halls include:
