Fine art and crafts is an area demanding personal drive and commitment to exploring self-initiated projects; whilst initially a source of personal satisfaction, work that is produced is shown to have wider implications, with possible references to social, ethical, political or spiritual issues; this course helps to prepare the student for a career within their chosen field of specialism; the programme’s aim is to make the student into a confident, versatile and talented artist or craftsperson; they continuously develop their skills by tackling challenging project briefs, often in collaboration with external agencies; they find out about the real worlds of art and craft and develop a close understanding of professional practice within these disciplines; the student is able to be involved in educational visits and exhibitions for an insight into art and crafts as they are practiced nationally and internationally; the course structure enables the student to realise a personal and/or professional identity within fine art or associated crafts; this programme aims to help the student achieve their full potential by developing and challenging conventional art, craft or design theories through experimental practical application; their technical and critical skills are broadened and enhanced to a high standard.
