Year 1: The student follows a common 1st year programme, including the core modules as outlined below: historical/contextual studies: art, design and craft 1; drawing and visualisation; computers in art and design; studio practice: fine art; studio practice: ceramics; studio practice: textiles; in addition to these the student takes part in the following: educational visits; live briefs; visiting lecturers (practising artists and craftsmen/women). Year 2: Students converge their specialist interests by historical and contextual research into an area of personal interest; professional practice modules encourage presentation skills and the elective modules enable them to build a personal pathway leading to a specialised 3rd year; modules include: historical and contextual studies 2; professional practice; painting; sculpture; ceramics; textiles. Year 3: This is the consolidatory part of the course that primarily aims to provide the opportunity to compile a body of work including a professional portfolio and a practical exhibition, in order to enter the workplace; in order to achieve this the student studies the following: dissertation; live brief; final major project practical.
